Whimsical Reborns

Have you ever asked yourself how you got to where you are today? 

I started ordering from Kory at Pumpkin Doodle Babies last July. I think I have bought a total of 9 or 10 dolls from her since then. My collection has ebbed and flowed over the last year, but I always keep some of my Pumpkin Doodle Babies. 

I had been waiting for so long to give Mackenzie her special package and I couldn't be more excited that she has it now. I am turning Mackenzie into an American Girl fan just like I am with this special package. I have been gathering special items for her while I was waiting for her. Currently, I am redoing her wardrobe, so that's a work in progress. I did end up selling the few things I had gotten her from American girl, they just didn't fit her. It wasn't that the actual clothes didn't fit, they just didn't fit the image I was hoping for. I am working on creating her story and figuring out who she is if she were a real kid (don't worry, I know she's not a real human).

There's nothing like getting a reborn baby delivery. It is truly something so special and my excitement builds up from the time of purchase until the time they arrive home to me. The excitement comes in different parts- there's finding that special reborn doll to purchase, clicking purchase is just as exciting, but then tracking the delivery is when the fun begins. You can see your reborn doll make its journey across the country and sometimes across the world waiting for the special arrival. 

A few weeks ago I ordered this fun play food from the Playroom Collective. These are Tiny Tummies by Tiny Harlow. I thought these were perfect for my reborn doll role play videos. Tiny Tummies come in 7 different flavors on their website. I love the concept of making it look like my dolls have actually eaten the food when I place the spoon in their mouth. When I place the spoon in their mouth, the food disappears until I stick it back into the jar of food again. 

Today I received this awesome Baby "Pillow" Talker from Still Moments Nursery in Australia. This is a really cool device that I can add to my reborn videos to make it seem like my reborn babies are more lifelike with baby sounds. The pillow talker is a flat rectangle and is perfect to put under a blanket, under your baby or even behind a stuffed animal. It comes with a little remote that has 8 sounds to choose from- babbling, sneezing, feeding hiccups, crying, snores when the baby is sleeping and more. I loved the realistic sounds this device made. 

Silicone babies are my absolute favorite. I love not only how realistic they look, but how realistic they feel. My silicone babies are the first ones that I go to whether I just want baby snuggles or if I'm having a hard time. Silicones are definitely more fragile than vinyl babies, but even though they're fragile, you can still have a lot of fun with them. You just have to take care of them just as you would a real baby, gently and carefully. Some say to only change them once a week, but I  have learned I can change them more often. I just have to make sure that I powder them.

If you're anything like me, you love to shop for your reborn dolls too. Since I can't shop for a real baby, I absolutely love shopping for my reborn dolls. 

At first I started collecting reborn dolls to help me with my crocheted items- making sure the baby hats were the right size, adding plushies next to the babies to showcase them. Then it turned into something much bigger than that. It first started as a hobby and now it has become more of a therapeutic outlet.
